Auckland Open Preview
The 5 players who have occupied the last two Club Night semi-final spots are consistently there or there about.
There are others to be considered and it will be interesting to see how many outside of Auckland brave the trip to the country's Covid hotbed 😱.
Auckland Open Club hopefuls:
- Harrison Donegan - a winner the previous week and runner-up last week
- Gary Boyland - winner last week and hitting plenty of 180s
- Patrick Shannon - knocking on the door as a recent finalist and semi-finalist
- Mike Day - NZDC Mens 5th ranked, "Wino" will be up for the Open
- Tony Lee - mercurial when he is on
Add in some other Club hopefuls that have some pedigree:
- Frank Riddell - recently picked for the New Zealand Online Darts B Team and won his first game
- Tony Sturm - beat last week's Club Night winner Gary Boyland in the group qualifying stage
- Steve Hanley - coming back from injury and cannot be discounted
With the likelihood of some top non West City players in attendance for the Open not to mention other top Aucklanders (Ken Moir? Deon Toki? Monte Tuhua?) it should be very competitive.
Just for the hell of it here are a few odds on how I see it..
2-1 North Islander (non-Auckland, non-West City)
3-1 Mike Day (West City)
5-1 Deon Toki, Monte Tuhua, Ken Moir
11-2 South Islander, Aucklander (other than those rated in this list and non-West City)
6-1 Harrison Donegan (West City)
7-1 Gary Boyland (West City)
8-1 Frank Riddell, Tony Lee,Tony Sturm (all West City)
10-1 Patrick Shannon, Steve Hanley (both West City)
25-1 West City Player (other than those rated in this list)
100-1 Me 😎 (West City)
200-1 Bar (for non-gamblers that is not the drinking bar to win it, it means bar these players already rated above 😁)
