New Poll Started...

I have started a new poll on the right hand side of the blog - "What's your favourite type of competition". I admit that I do like straw polls to see where the consensus lies on a subject (even though it is unscientific) and I usually can't resist voting myself if I come across one on another website.

This poll was sparked by the number of Pairs competitions that seem to be a favourite in New Zealand. Not sure if Pairs is as prevalent in other countries, but it certainly is here. I guess this may be due to the fact that it can involve all (men, women, youths, juniors, good, bad and average players) and if you pick or are drawn with the right partner it means everybody can get a chance of some glory, and it is more social perhaps because of this. My only glory in winning a night's Final at West City was in a drawn pairs (thanks Emma Heavey !), so that probably bears out the theory of having a better chance somewhat :)

Having said that, I prefer Singles for the fact that you have rely on and test yourself more if you do want to achieve a result

Anyway, I will be interested to see what people vote for in this poll, so go on have a vote...

New website - Dart Finishes

Ever pondered about what the best finish might be from 170 down? Well Peter Page (the man most responsible for getting this blog up and running, and popular) has set up a website listing the most common finishes and some not so common. Automatically knowing what the best finish option is can be crucial to keeping your rhythm going and finishing out to win the leg.  It wouldn't hurt to memorise as many finishes as you can as some ways may be available to leave you on your favourite double, which is another plus to help you win the leg.

Club Night Results - Thursday April 17th

A good turn out again saw 40 players entered for the Club Night Singles. The final was taken out by the back in form Monte Tuhua over Dean Webster. To confirm Monte is back in form he hit 4 x 180s on the night. Special mention this week goes to Dean Faithfull who knocked out the prolific Mick Lacey, so after my comments last week you have to say at least one player lifted the bar to match Mick. Nice game Dean ! Dean lost his next game though to eventual winner Monte in the quarter-finals. Other special mention this week goes to Steve Hanley with the highest checkout of 152.

Poll Results: Would you miss this blog if it closed?

The last Poll I ran was -Would you miss this blog if it closed? ...and the results are in !

Hmmm... only 24 voters. Thought the readership that might participate might have been bigger?

Thanks to those who left comments of support for the blog's continuance. Interestingly most of the comments came from outside of Auckland !

Sydney Masters Tour

Dale Frampton, DPNZ, is organising a players and supporters tour to the Sydney Masters in August this year. There are limited seats and an early booking is essential. Eight of the top players in the world will be present playing in a knockout televised 3 day tournament at a Sydney venue able to accommodate more than 3000 spectators. Players will be able to play several qualifying tournaments in the days leading up to the event and so will have a chance to play perhaps Phil Taylor, 17 time world champ, or Michael Van Gerwen Current world champ and others. The package includes airfares, accommodation, entry fees and tickets to watch the Masters.

For all details and booking fees contact Dale Frampton 03 216 5199 , as early as possible or you may miss out. Last year’s tour was sold out quickly.

Club Night Results - Thursday 10 April

Mick Lacey once again took out the final on the Club Night Singles. He is proving to be formidable this year and has raised the bar at the club (no not the one you drink at...!). I can't help feeling the rest of the regular players are going to have to raise their bar as well to try and beat him.

Special mention this week though has to go to one player and that is youth player Stacey Heavey on making the final to play Mick. Stacey is definitely a handful when she is on her game and is full of promise for the future. She has been racking up some decent results this year at various events... keep it up Stacey !

Nathan Holt; Lloyd Watters; Dean Faithfull; Lloyd Tomkins; Dave Curreen; Mick Lacey x 3.
High Score:
Mick Lacey 164
High Finishes:
100 Dave Curreen; 103 Frank Riddell; 110 Blair Hutchison; 128 Jordan Lacey; 148 Mick Lacey.

Club Night Results - Thursday April 3rd

Club Night results hot off the press... well maybe luke warm off the press (Gawd I wish there were more hours in the day... well look at that, there was an extra hour today !). Thursday night saw 50 entries for the Club Night Singles, which is the biggest turn out for some time. There were 27 qualifiers for the knockout rounds but it was the old guard fighting it out in the final with Mick Lacey coming out on top against Monte Tuhua. Mick is definitely the form horse at the club so far this year and he hit four 180s this week, as many as the rest of the players put together.

Special mentions:
Claudette Smith with a 180 - you go girl !
Llyod Tomkins making the semi finals - your fitness regime must be paying off !
David Day with 121 and 110 finishes - and because you knocked me out you **** !
