Paul Says Farewell

Paul Williams says goodbye. He is of to a new job and life in Melbourne. Paul has been a member of West City Darts Association for 17 years. For ten years he was on the committee and at different times held posts of Secretary and President. He 2 years ago was made a life member for his outstanding service to the club. Amongst many other things he was instrumental in putting the club on a sound financial footing, played a part in starting the NZDC Auckland Open and made presentations for West City to the Waitakere City Council to keep the present club rooms. Paul first started playing darts in England when for three or 4 years he played in the Manchester Pub league. His mother played darts and still plays today at the age of 76. Paul came to New Zealand in 1986 and became a member of the West City Darts Association in 1994. He plays with a 23.3 gram John Lowe Signature dart. He carries a 25 gram John Lowe set as a spare. Paul's tip when playing is to " have no fear ". Paul's practice tip is to not play games of 501 unless you have a practice opponent. He recommends playing 170. The game where you aim to finish 170 in 9 darts. Paul's own personal goal when practicing is to do it in 6 darts. This routine has served him with many successes at club and Auckland level darts. Playing RSA darts he made the NZ interdominion team a number of times but his proudest moment in darts was first making the Auckland Region team in 2009 and going to the NZDC championships and winning the region title. " It was my second attempt to make the team. To achieve this and then to be part of an Auckland team that won a national title when it had been a few years since they had tasted victory was a proud moment in my dart career". Paul will be playing in Melbourne and is already in contact with members of the Australian dart community. So if you wish to say goodbye please come and see him at West City on Thursday nights for the next two weeks before he departs. Haere Ra Paul.
