Dart Facts - Eric Bristow

Most darts enthusiasts will know that Eric Bristow was probably the first darts superstar and won 5 BDO World Titles. However more than that, he dominated darts right through the eighties and the start of the nineties as he was also a losing finalist on 5 more occasions, which meant he appeared in 10 Finals in this 12 year period. The averages of the time, as seen in the graphic, would probably not win a PDC World Final now but a lot of that is down to Bristow who really was the first to set bench marks that others had to improve to in order to stand a chance.

In two of his losing Finals (1983 & 1987) Bristow actually had a better average than the eventual winner.

Although Phil Taylor is credited with being the father of modern darts and the levels of playing professionalism attained today with his 16 Singles World Titles, Bristow was the man he had to overthrow first to get there and Bristow's impact on the game should never be underestimated.
