Did You Know?

The throwing distance from the face of the dartboard to the toe line (the oche) in New Zealand is officially 7 ft 9.25 in. (2.37 m). This is also the official distance of the WDF (World Darts Federation) and the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation).

However in some British pubs the distance is 8ft or even 8ft 6in. In actuality the distance can vary the world over to as far as 9ft ! There doesn't seem to be a generally accepted reason as to why the standard distance is now 7ft 9.25in, other than this became the standard about 15-20 years ago. There is one theory that it came about in the professional arena as the shorter distance made games a little more competitive and more exciting to watch. I'll second that when watching the PDC games on SKY TV !
