Mike and Wendy Day Win Des Heavey Memorial Mixed Pairs

Mike and Wendy Day won the Des Heavey Memorial Mixed Pairs earlier today at the West City Darts Association club rooms, Glen Road, Ranui by defeating Ray Tonga and Lynette Bennett 3 to 1 in the final. The first two legs of the final were rather awful. The first one was won by Mike and Wendy in 33 darts and the second by Ray and Lynette in 32. Mike Day then decided to pull his finger out and he and Wendy won the third leg in 25 darts with Mike just missing a 170 finish by hitting the 25. In the last leg it was better with Mike and Wendy finishing in 21 darts and Mike hitting a 180.

There were 33 entries and 18 qualifiers. Nine 180's were scored. Wilson Henry got the first with his first three darts of the day. Mike Day had the most with two. Paul Williams had the highest men's finish with 117 and Jo Kinita had the highest ladies finish with 124.

$300 was donated to the West Auckland Hospice. This was presented to Wendy Day the representative of the West Auckland Hospice by Raewyn Heavey the President of the West City Darts Association.

The consolation was won by Stephen Holt and Rita Wells when they beat Michael Hogan and Jeanette Tonga.
The next event at West City is the Holt Rose Bowl on Thursday 15 April at 7.30 pm. This is a financial members only drawn mixed pairs event. Followed by the Auckland Region playoffs on Sunday 18th April.
