Counties 8 West City 6

Counties Manukau Darts association have beaten West City Darts Association 8 to 6 today at the Bellbird Arms, Manurewa to retain the Rene Stacey Shield by winning the last two singles. Coming to the last two games the score was 6 all. Jim Hennah and Peter Page for West City and Oz Crane and Rod Penney of Counties played the last single matches with Counties winning both. If West City had managed one win it would have led to a deciding team game but this was not to be.

The Counties team was John Sinclair, Tere Tou, Sonny Matekuare, Phil Cave, Sam Bryant, Hordie McKinnon, Oz Crane and Rod Penney. The West City team was Monty Tuhua, Stephen Holt, Mike Day, Paul Williams, Brevis Herbert, Dean Webster, Jim Hennah and Peter Page.

The previous evening Counties lost the Ben Hill trophy to Palmerston North darts Association in a close game. West City were to be the next challenger this 8th November. That challenge may not now take place as Palmerston have the right to refuse and not have a challenge to 2010. Paul Williams, President of West City said " We still hope to have the challenge but it is out of our hands and its up to Palmerston North as to whether our challenge is accepted".
