Australia 11 New Zealand 10


The Australian Dart Players team have defeated the NZ Club NZ team 11 to 10 last night at the Otahuhu Working men's Club. Australia was represented by Steve MacArthur (Captain), Shane Tichowitsch, Daniel Smith and Dean McGladdery. New Zealand was represented by Phil Hazel (Captain), Bernie Smith, Preston Ridd and Craig Caldwell.

After a round robin of pairs only Phil Hazel and Preston Ridd had recorded a win for the kiwis. The score was 3 to 1 in favour of Australia. After a round robin of singles the score was 10 all. Craig Caldwell was the most successful kiwi in the singles having three wins. He also scored back to back 180's in his game against Steve MacArthur. The seventh dart hit a single one ending the possibility of a 9 darter.

A team game of one leg of 1001 was played to decide the winner. The kiwis had the advantage when Phil Hazel won the bull and the right to start first. The scores were neck and neck with the kiwis just in front. NZ were on 16 when Australia went out on 85. Dean Gladdery hit triple 2, triple 13 and double tops to seal the win.

At 2pm today a singles tournament is to be held at the venue with a $500 first prize as a warm up for the Oceanic Masters tomorrow.
