West City Ladies Win Shield

West City Ladies Team have won the APDE Ladies Challenge Shield from the Auckland Ladies Cook Islands team this afternoon at the Otahuhu Railway Bowling Club by 9 games to 5. The team started slowly loosing the first two games of fours but came back to equalise at three all after winning 3 of the 4 pairs. In the singles they won 6 out of 8 games with many games being very close.

The West City team was comprised of Peggy Wikaira, Barbara Herbert, Lorreta Hunter, Lou Williams, Gail Olliver, Rita Wells, Sarah Joseph and Maine Ngametua. The Cook Island team was Tia Angene, Ani Glassie, Mata Tuao, Sally Ahsin, Martha Ka, Maine Nookura, Haumata Metua and Rachel Philips.
The shield has been competed for since 1965. West City have not held the shield since 2001. Paul Williams, Club President, said " The next challenge will be at West City Darts Asssociation hall sometime towards the end of September against a yet to be confirmed opponent".
